Terms of Use

These Terms explain the rules for using LookBeforeYouMove, whether you are researching neighborhoods or advertising your services on the platform. If you use the Service, these Terms apply.

For consumers

You can research, save areas, and connect only when you choose. Saving an area does not share your identity with advertisers.

For advertisers

Agent and business accounts buy ad placement, not endorsements, rankings, or guaranteed leads.

For everyone

LBYM is a research tool built from public and licensed data. It helps inform decisions, but it does not guarantee outcomes.

Welcome to LookBeforeYouMove (“LBYM,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using our website at lookbeforeyoumove.com and any related services (collectively, the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years of age and that all information you provide is accurate and complete.

2. Account Types

The Service currently supports three types of accounts:

  • Consumer Accounts: Free accounts for individuals researching neighborhoods. Requires email and name. A phone number is optional; if you add one to your profile, it is shared with a provider only when you choose to connect with them.
  • Agent Accounts: Paid advertising accounts for real estate professionals who purchase ad placement in zip codes to display their profile and ads to consumers researching those areas.
  • Business Accounts: Paid advertising accounts for home service businesses (movers, inspectors, cleaners, etc.) who purchase ad placement within coverage areas to display their profile and ads to consumers.

3. Consumer Accounts & Data Sharing

3.1 What We Collect

By creating a Consumer account, you provide your name and email address. This information is used to personalize your experience, deliver saved-area alerts, and facilitate introductions when you choose to connect with a local professional. You may optionally add a phone number to your profile; if you do, it is shared with a provider only when you choose to connect with them. A phone number is never required to create or maintain your account.

3.2 Targeted Ads vs. Data Sharing

LBYM may show you ads from local real estate agents and home service providers matched to your saved areas. Those providers can target ads to users in relevant areas, but they do not receive your name, email, phone, or any personal contact information through that ad targeting. Saving an area never shares your data with a provider.

Your contact information is only transmitted to a specific provider when you explicitly click to initiate a connection with that provider. Each connection is a separate, affirmative consent event. Business connections receive your name, verified email, optional phone, and the area you were researching. Agent connections may also include your selected lifestyle priorities, excluding schools, safety, places of worship, and other protected-class proxies. You will never be contacted by a provider you have not chosen to connect with.

3.3 Opting Out

You may delete your account at any time through the Settings page. Deleting your account will permanently remove all your data, including saved areas, Life List criteria, and any reports.

4. Agent & Business Accounts

4.1 Advertising Subscriptions

Agent and Business accounts purchase advertising placement, billed monthly on a per-zip-code or per-coverage-area basis. Fees are flat fees for advertising services: one flat monthly rate per zip code (agents) or per coverage area (businesses), with every sponsor in an area receiving an equal share of exposure in rotation. Placement position is not sold. Fees are not based on, and are not contingent upon, the number of leads, introductions, connections, closings, commissions, transactions, or any measure of transaction success or volume.

4.2 No Endorsement, Recommendation, or Referral

Paid placement is solely for advertising services actually provided. LBYM does not endorse, recommend, rank, vouch for, or refer any agent, lender, title company, inspector, mover, or other settlement-service or home-service provider. A provider appearing on the Service reflects payment for advertising only and is not a recommendation by LBYM. Sponsors rotate with an equal share of exposure; no provider can pay for a higher position. Consumers should independently evaluate any provider before contacting or hiring them.

4.3 Provider Compliance

Providers are solely responsible for the accuracy and legality of their profiles, advertisements, licensing information, claims, and communications, and for complying with all applicable laws, including state real estate licensing and advertising rules (such as TREC rules in Texas and the equivalent rules in Florida and Idaho), the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) where applicable, and all consumer-protection and advertising laws. LBYM does not verify all provider claims and does not guarantee provider availability, quality, results, pricing, or performance.

4.4 Auto-Renew

Advertising subscriptions renew automatically each month. You may disable auto-renew at any time through your portal. Disabling auto-renew means your zip code or coverage area will become available to other advertisers at the end of the current billing period.

4.5 Placement Availability & Quality Standards

Zip codes have a limited number of advertising slots (typically 1–3, set at our discretion). When all slots are filled, additional advertisers may join a waitlist. LBYM reserves the right to adjust the maximum number of advertisers per zip code at any time.

LBYM may pause the display of an advertisement whose profile does not meet minimum quality standards (for example, a missing photo or logo, or a missing contact method), and will notify you with an opportunity to cure. A quality pause suspends ad display only; it is not an account termination, and you can restore your placement at any time by completing your profile. If a placement remains paused for quality reasons through a full billing period, contact us for a billing adjustment for the paused period.

4.6 No Guarantee of Results

LBYM does not guarantee any specific number of impressions, views, connections, leads, or conversions. Advertising performance depends on consumer activity in your advertised areas and is not warranted or promised. Results vary and are not contingent on transaction outcomes.

5. Content & Conduct

5.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of content you upload (logos, headshots, ad copy). By uploading, you grant LBYM a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display your content within the Service for the purpose of delivering your ads to consumers.

5.2 Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to: (a) use the Service for any unlawful purpose; (b) upload false, misleading, or deceptive content; (c) attempt to access other users' accounts or data; (d) scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service; (e) interfere with the operation of the Service.

6. Data & Accuracy

Neighborhood data displayed on LBYM, including points of interest, distances, school ratings, crime statistics, and cost-of-living estimates, comes from public records and third-party data providers. While we strive for accuracy, LBYM does not guarantee the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of any data. You should independently verify information before making relocation decisions.

7. Payment & Billing

All payments are processed through Stripe. By providing payment information, you authorize LBYM to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis. You are responsible for all charges incurred under your account. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis at our discretion.

8. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms or for any reason at our sole discretion. You may delete your Consumer account at any time through Settings. Agent and Business accounts may be canceled through their respective portals, subject to the end of the current billing period.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LBYM and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid to LBYM in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. LBYM does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LBYM and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. We will notify users of material changes by email or in-app notification.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts located in Travis County, Texas.
