This page explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices you have. The short version is simple: your research stays private unless you decide to take the next step.
Private by default
Searching, browsing, and saving areas does not share your identity with agents or businesses.
You choose connections
Your contact information is shared only when you explicitly connect, and agent connections may also include a redacted set of selected lifestyle priorities.
Controls stay with you
You can manage ad measurement, privacy preferences, and account deletion from your settings.

LookBeforeYouMove (“LBYM,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use our website at lookbeforeyoumove.com and related services (the “Service”).
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: Name, email address, phone number, and password when you create an account.
- Profile information: For agents and businesses -- display name, company name, title, brokerage, bio, headshot, logo, and contact preferences.
- Search and research data: Zip codes and neighborhoods you search or save, Life List criteria you set, commute destinations, and areas you compare.
- Payment information: For agents and businesses -- payment details are processed and stored by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card number.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data: Pages visited, features used, clicks on ads and CTAs, search queries, and session duration.
- Performance data: Page load times, time to first byte (TTFB), and browser information, collected to monitor and improve site performance.
- Device information: Browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and IP address.
- Cookies and similar technologies: We use first-party cookies for authentication, session management, and product preferences (for example, remembering which version of our dashboard your browser uses). These cookies are set only by LBYM, contain no personal information on their own, and are never shared with third parties. We also use a small set of third-party advertising and measurement cookies set by Meta (Facebook), Google, and Reddit to measure ad performance and show our ads to people who have shown interest in LBYM. See Section 3.3 for what is shared with these partners and how to opt out.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the Service: Displaying neighborhood data, POI search results, scoring, and comparisons based on your criteria and saved areas.
- To facilitate connections you request: When you explicitly click to connect with a specific agent or business, we share the information needed for that one provider to respond. Business connections receive your contact information and researched area only. Agent connections may also include your selected lifestyle priorities, excluding schools, safety, places of worship, and other protected-class proxies. We do not share your contact information with any provider unless you take this action. See Section 3.1.
- To display relevant ads: Showing agent and business profiles in the sidebar, Local Connections, and other ad placements based on the zip codes you save. Ad targeting is based on area only and does not share your name, email, or phone with the advertiser.
- To process payments: Billing agents and businesses for their subscriptions via Stripe.
- To improve the Service: Analyzing usage patterns, performance metrics, and user feedback to enhance features and fix issues.
- To measure and improve our marketing: Measuring which of our ads or referral sources lead people to sign up or take other actions on LBYM, so we can spend our marketing budget where it actually helps people find us. See Section 3.3 for the specific partners and what is shared.
- To communicate with you: Sending updates, alerts, and notifications you've opted into (e.g., weekly digests, criteria match alerts).
3. How We Share Your Information
3.1 With Agents and Businesses (Only When You Choose to Connect)
We do not share your contact information with an agent or business simply because you searched, viewed, or saved an area. Browsing and saving areas is private research; to a provider you remain an anonymous visitor.
Your contact information is transmitted to a specific provider only when you take an explicit action to connect with that provider, for example, clicking “Connect,” “Request introduction,” or a similar provider-specific button on that provider’s card or profile.
- Each connection is a separate, affirmative consent event, tied to the one provider you chose.
- We share only the information required for that connection: typically your name, verified email, and a phone number only if you have chosen to provide one, plus the address or area you were researching.
- Business connections: business connections receive move-intent only. They do not receive your Life List or selected lifestyle priorities.
- Agent connections: agent connections may also include your selected lifestyle priorities, excluding schools, safety, places of worship, and other protected-class proxies.
- We keep a record of each connection event, including the date, the provider, and the information shared.
- You will never be contacted through LBYM by a provider you did not choose to connect with.
Ad targeting is not data sharing. Agents and businesses can target ads to the areas you save, but they do not receive your name, email, phone, or any personal contact information through ad targeting.
3.2 With Service Providers
- Supabase: Database and authentication hosting.
- Stripe: Payment processing for agent and business subscriptions.
- Vercel: Application hosting and deployment.
- OpenStreetMap / Overpass API: Map data and points of interest (no personal data is sent to these services).
- Resend: Transactional and digest email delivery.
3.3 With Advertising and Measurement Partners
We use a small number of third-party services to measure how our marketing performs and to show LBYM ads to people who have visited the site or signed up. Our current partners are Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram), Google, and Reddit.
Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram)
- Events: Page views, searches, viewed neighborhood pages (the ZIP or city, not the contents of your Life List), sign-up completions, and clicks to connect with a provider. We send a generic event name and the page URL.
- Identifiers, hashed: When you are signed in, your email address and our internal user ID are hashed using SHA-256 before they leave your browser or our server. Meta receives only the hash, which lets them match your activity on LBYM to your Facebook or Instagram account without us ever sending your raw email.
- Device and network signals: Your IP address, browser user agent, and the Meta cookie identifiers Meta itself sets (
_fbp and _fbc). - For advertiser purchases only: The dollar amount and currency of the advertising package purchased. This applies to Agent and Business accounts at checkout, not to consumer activity.
Google
- Events: Page views and sign-up completions, used to measure the performance of our Google Ads campaigns.
- Identifiers, hashed (enhanced conversions): When you sign up, your email address is hashed using SHA-256 before being shared. Google uses the hash to match your conversion to a prior ad click without us sending your raw email.
- Click identifiers: Google sets a
gclid parameter on ad clicks, which we pass back to attribute conversions to the correct campaign.
Reddit
- Events: Page views and sign-up completions, used to measure the performance of our Reddit Ads campaigns.
- Click identifiers: Reddit sets an
rdt_cid parameter on ad clicks, which we use to attribute conversions to the correct campaign. - Device and network signals: Your IP address, browser user agent, and cookie identifiers Reddit itself sets.
What is never shared with Meta, Google, Reddit, or any other advertising partner: your raw email address, your phone number, the names or details of your saved areas, your Life List criteria, your commute destination, your saved reports, your messages, or any information identifying the providers you are researching.
How to opt out:
- Use the Settings page to turn off advertising and measurement cookies (this control is required for California residents and is available to all users).
- Adjust your Meta ad preferences directly with Meta.
- Adjust your Google ad preferences directly with Google.
- Adjust your Reddit ad preferences directly with Reddit.
- Use your browser’s “Do Not Track,” Global Privacy Control, or content-blocking extensions, which we honor.
3.4 For Legal Reasons
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental regulation, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
3.5 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account:
- Your account data, saved areas, Life List, and reports are permanently deleted.
- Records of any connections you initiated are removed from our active systems. Note that a provider you previously chose to connect with may retain the information you submitted to them at that time, under their own privacy practices, which are outside our control.
- Performance logs and anonymized analytics data may be retained for up to 12 months.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information via your Profile or Settings pages, or by request.
- Delete your account and all associated data via the Settings page.
- Data portability: Request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
- Opt out of provider connections without deleting your account. Because we only share your contact information, researched area, and for agent connections a redacted set of selected lifestyle priorities, when you click to connect with a specific provider, you can stop all such sharing simply by not initiating connections. You may also disable connection features and marketing communications from your Settings page while keeping your account active.
To exercise any of these rights, use the controls on your Settings page or contact us at hello@lookbeforeyoumove.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law and will log the date each request is received and completed.
6. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit.
- Row-level security (RLS) in our database ensuring users can only access their own data.
- Stripe PCI compliance for payment processing -- we never store credit card numbers.
- Authentication via Supabase Auth with secure session management.
No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly.
8. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (e.g., agent websites, Calendly links). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to: (a) know what personal information we collect and how it is used; (b) request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information; (c) opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information; and (d) not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
LBYM does not sell your personal information for money. We do, however, “share” a limited set of information with Meta (Facebook and Instagram) for cross-context behavioral advertising, as described in Section 3.3. Under the CCPA and CPRA, that transmission is treated as “sharing” even though we receive no payment for it and Meta receives only hashed identifiers, not your raw email or phone.
Your transfer of contact information to a specific provider (Section 3.1) happens only after you explicitly choose to connect with that provider, so that transfer is directed by you. To the extent any such transfer is considered a “sale” or “sharing,” you can opt out without deleting your account simply by not initiating connections.
To opt out of the advertising and measurement “sharing” described in Section 3.3, use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information control on your Settings page. We also automatically treat the Global Privacy Control browser signal as a valid opt-out request and will not load the Meta, Google, or Reddit measurement tags for users sending that signal.
You may also submit any privacy request, access, correction, deletion, portability, or opt-out, by emailing hello@lookbeforeyoumove.com. We log when each request is received and completed, and we will not require you to delete your account in order to opt out.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
